When There’s More to the Story | Resurrection Sunday (Jim Shelburne)
April 4, 2021
Everybody has a story, and most of us think we know or can control the ending, or at least have very definite ideas about “how things are supposed to turn out.” In our Easter Sunday message, we meet two Christ-followers who are traveling the road to Emmaus that first Easter Sunday evening. They are bewildered and dejected by the intense plot twist that has taken their hopeful Messiah and had him nailed to a cross. On the road they meet a “stranger” who comes alongside them and gently challenges the story they expected. He helps them see their own story and Israel’s story—and indeed their Messiah’s story—in an entirely different light, all because of the cross.
